Reishi Mushroom Powder; An Experiment in Wellness
There has been a resurgence of interest in recent years in traditional and alternative remedies for various health concerns (and I love researching them, can you tell?). One such remedy that has gained considerable attention is Reishi mushroom powder, a potent and versatile superfood. Known as the "Mushroom of Immortality" in ancient Chinese medicine, Reishi mushrooms (Ganoderma lucidum) have been revered for their numerous health benefits for thousands of years. Today, Reishi mushroom powder is readily available in various forms, making it accessible to those seeking natural solutions for a wide range of health issues.
I’ve wanted to do this experiment for a while now, and it did NOT disappoint. Come along with me in this article where we’ll explore the details of my own 2 week stint with the powder, the benefits of Reishi Mushroom in general and why you should consider adding this powder into your diet, unlocking some serious positive health potentials.
A Personal Experience
The following contains a few selected days of mine when I wrote about how I was feeling during my 2 week cycle with our Reishi Mushroom Powder. I decided to include only a few days as I didn’t want to thrust too much information at readers and the final message encapsulates a similar message anyway. So here it is:
Day 3, I feel oddly clear. Able to tackle my day in a more enthusiastic way that feels quite unfamiliar to me. I’m used to rushing about and getting a bit stressed (especially in the mornings) and although these things still happen I just feel, present. Present with the stress. More accepting of my humanness and more able to see myself in those patterns. So while a little disconnected maybe from my usual patterns (which is a bloody great thing really), quite calm in knowing that I’m disconnected from those habitual patterns. Only if today, I’ll take it!
Day 4, I haven’t even had the powder yet (sound like an addict!), but I already feel, STILL, quite clear headed. There's less mental garbage rattling around in my mind. I feel like I’m looking through a new lens. I want to be the creator of my experience, not just an observer. Oh the insights!
Day 7, I am enjoying adding this into my choices every day. Most of this has been in smoothie form but yesterday I tried Tom’s recipe for Reishi Mushroom Veggie Soup, you can find this recipe and instructions on how to make it here. It was glorious! One thing I will also highlight today, it’s been a bit of rubbish day where sugar is concerned. I have over indulged in sugar and this hasn’t helped contribute to a clearer head. So am feeling the come down of this for sure, and simultaneously enjoying my Reishi smoothie to help things along.
Day 9, I feel so creative today! In fact I have written a whole article so far, composed a list of new, exciting recipe ideas for my children, baked some healthy muffins, read a whole chapter of my book, walked my dog and have done a wonderful meditation! All before the afternoon school run! I have an undeniable boost of energy today and I’m here for it.
Day 12, I don’t even notice the earthy taste of the powder any more. I’ve actually grown quite accustomed to it, like an old familiar friend, I know what I’m getting. And it's VERY pleasant. I added a bit more fruit to my smoothie mix today, a few chunks of pineapple and 2 strawberries. I’m not sure I’ll get over how clear my head feels. I have had so much clarity, these last 2 days in particular, regarding some personal matters and I feel strong enough, mentally and physically, to take on new directions and aim higher.
Day 14 – THE RESULT – this is the least stressed I have felt in about 2 years! I’m already planning my next stint with Reishi Mushroom Powder (nick named it Reishi Mushroom POWER). Honestly, it has been a very cathartic, open 2 weeks. I have felt very big emotions, have felt ABLE to process these big emotions and just generally, overall have had such mental clarity, every day. I know there is no miracle cure to end all suffering, but my goodness if there’s anything close, it’s Reishi Mushroom Powder!
For those of you wishing for a bit of smoothie guidance, please see below for my own random recipe and also note that Tom too has a smoothie recipe next to the soup one on our website, linked above on Day 7:

The Benefits of Reishi Mushroom Powder
Immune System Support
One of the primary reasons for the popularity of Reishi mushroom powder is its remarkable ability to enhance and regulate the immune system. This mushroom contains a group of bioactive compounds, such as beta-glucans and polysaccharides, which play a crucial role in modulating the immune response. Regular consumption of Reishi mushroom powder can help improve your body's defense mechanisms, making it better equipped to ward off infections and illnesses.
Stress Reduction and Relaxation
In today's fast-paced world, stress has become an almost inevitable part of our daily lives. Reishi mushrooms have adaptogenic properties, meaning they can help the body adapt to stress and restore balance. By consuming Reishi mushroom powder, individuals may experience a sense of relaxation and relief from stress, promoting emotional well-being.
Enhanced Sleep Quality
Quality sleep is essential for overall health and well-being (although my 2 year old doesn’t pay attention to this memo). Reishi mushroom powder has been linked to improved sleep patterns. Its calming effects and ability to reduce anxiety can help individuals achieve deeper, more restful sleep, resulting in increased energy and cognitive function during waking hours.
Anti-Inflammatory Properties
Chronic inflammation is at the root of many health problems, including heart disease, arthritis, and autoimmune conditions. Reishi mushroom powder contains potent anti-inflammatory compounds that can help reduce inflammation and associated symptoms. By incorporating it into your diet, you may experience relief from pain and discomfort related to inflammatory conditions.
Antioxidant Protection
Reishi mushrooms are rich in antioxidants, which help the body combat oxidative stress and free radical damage. Antioxidants play a significant role in preventing chronic diseases and maintaining youthful, radiant skin. Regular consumption of Reishi mushroom powder can contribute to a healthier, more youthful appearance and support long-term health. Although I would cycle your exposure to this powder to 2 weeks/1 month cycles.
Improved Cognitive Function
Reishi mushroom powder has also shown potential in supporting cognitive function. I can safely support this fact with my own experience with it. It contains compounds that may enhance memory, concentration, and mental clarity. Additionally, its stress-reducing properties can help mitigate cognitive decline associated with chronic stress.
Liver Health
The liver is a vital organ responsible for detoxification and metabolism. Reishi mushroom powder has been associated with liver-protective properties, supporting the liver's ability to detoxify and function optimally. This can be particularly beneficial for individuals with liver conditions or those looking to maintain liver health.
Respiratory Health
Reishi mushrooms are known for their potential to improve respiratory health. They may help alleviate symptoms of asthma and bronchitis and improve lung function. This makes Reishi mushroom powder a valuable supplement for individuals with respiratory issues.
Balanced Blood Sugar Levels
Some research suggests that Reishi mushroom powder may help regulate blood sugar levels. This could be beneficial for individuals with diabetes or those at risk of developing the condition.
Cancer Support
While Reishi mushrooms should not be considered a sole treatment for cancer, they have shown potential in supporting conventional cancer treatments. Compounds in Reishi mushrooms have been studied for their ability to enhance the body's immune response against cancer cells and improve the overall quality of life for cancer patients.
Incorporating Reishi mushroom powder into your daily routine can be a convenient and effective way to harness these benefits. You can easily add it to your morning smoothie, tea, or other favourite drinks, or even include it in recipes for soups and stews. However, it's essential to remember that Reishi mushroom powder is not a substitute for professional medical advice and treatment. So always do your own research before using it as a supplement, especially if you have underlying health conditions or are taking medication. I’d just like to highlight also, I’ve mentioned about cycling this powder. We believe at Ancient Purity that you should always cycle any vitamins and minerals. Having regular breaks from them so your body doesn’t get used to them and the product stops working, we believe is the best way to use any herbs or plant medicines. Sometimes over-exposure and too much of one thing can produce immunity over time and the body stops getting use from what it is its been over-exposed to. They are only meant to supplement what our body is not getting enough of from food products. But please note this is just an opinion as opposed to a major rule in supplementation, so use your best judgement on what works best for you.
As we’ve seen, Reishi mushroom powder is a natural superfood with a wide range of health benefits. Its immune-boosting, stress-reducing, and anti-inflammatory properties make it a valuable addition to a healthy lifestyle. As more research is conducted on the potential advantages of Reishi mushroom powder, it's likely that even more benefits will come to light, further solidifying its place as a valuable dietary supplement in the pursuit of better health and well-being.
