Muntjac's Spirit Animals at Ancient Purity

Muntjac Deers are a regular feature at Ancient Purity, wonder round the back of our place you'll see them, the drive on the country road to us you can see them pop their heads up. It's always a quick moment but it is magic, I never get bored of these unique creatures jumping about. The Muntjac, are a petite deer with short, horn-like antlers, they originate from Asia but has been introduced to both Europe, the Americas and most importantly they are here at Ancient Purity. Life here is very natural and very supernatural and so is the Muntjac, I always took a massive interest in Deers, I just find them such beautiful creatures. But over time here I've wanted to know more about them. At Ancient Purity we've worked on the Feng Shui of the place, we've put real effort into understanding the energy and life around us. So from the Bats, the Birds, the Muntjacs and other animals right outside our door I want to know the meaning on these creatures and our relationship to them, beyond science and reason. This is all my notes, research and thoughts on these animals and why I think it's relevant.

The Muntjac Deer holds great spiritual significance and presents an opportunity for us to deepen our connection with nature. With its unique qualities and traits, the muntjac offers profound insights into our daily lives and helps us live mindfully. This fascinating creature is often regarded as a messenger from the beyond, and its appearance can convey positive or negative news, depending on the circumstance. Additionally, the muntjac serves as a symbol of fecundity and rebirth, embracing the cycles of nature for personal enrichment. Though small in size, the muntjac's powerful personality and adaptive nature facilitate its survival throughout a wide range of habitats, such as dense jungles and steep mountains. This resilience reflects not only the muntjac's persistence in diverse environments but also symbolises determination and hope amid continual life challenges. As such, the muntjac embodies inner strength, motivation, and aspirations for many people facing their own life hurdles. But many ancient cultures have a theory on them, I read each one and will finish with what I feel based on a lot of encounters with them, not only at Ancient Purity but I bumped into them in other places. Yet many of my friends here in England said they never even saw one.

Muntjac Deer

Munjacts in Christianity & Celtic Symbolism

For centuries, artists have utilised the muntjac as a symbol of hope in Christianity, with the cross representing Jesus Christ's ultimate sacrifice. Known for their peaceful personality and ability to thrive alongside humans, the muntjac's graceful antlers mirror the development of the Christian faith. This connection makes them a widely recognised representative of peace in Christianity across the globe. In Celtic mythology, the muntjac holds significance in transformation and novel beginnings and serves as a protector of the forest due to its horns, which are believed to possess magical qualities.

In Chinese, Far Eastern and Indian Cultures

The muntjac holds diverse meanings in various religious and cultural beliefs. In Hindu mythology, it embodies the incarnation of Goddess Saraswati, and is often featured as the mount of the God Ganesh, or carrying the Goddess in depictions. Also in the Ayurvedic Traditions its antlers are utilised as a medicine. Folklore in China celebrates the muntjac as an emblem of prosperity and good fortune, longevity and wisdom, it's regularly illustrated in paintings and scroll renditions. Also, in Vietnam, the animal is deemed sacred, with the dragon, phoenix, and tortoise, where it holds a significance for art and literature. Among Buddhist traditions, the muntjac has a crucial role as being a steadfast companion of Ananda, follower of Buddha. With all its symbolic interpretations throughout ages, we cannot deny the muntjac's intrinsic charm and mystique. In Japan, the muntjac is tied to the Shinto deity of prosperity, with antlers from such creatures valued as powerful charms in promoting fertility.

Native America & Africa

For centuries, the muntjac has held a significant role as a symbol in Native American culture. Within certain tribes, it is deemed a guardian spirit that safeguards against malevolent forces. Additionally, this deer is commonly linked to prosperity and fecundity, frequently being featured in stories and artwork to represent such concepts. As of late, the muntjac has increasingly been used as a spirit animal by individuals seeking to connect with their Native American roots. They also have status as a totem animal. In Africa, the deer animal is fabled to possess magical abilities and is therefore utilised in folk medicine practices. Its distinctive appearance - bearing semblance to a cross between a deer and a dragon - reinforces its mystical properties.

Muntjac in Dreams, Tattoos & Collections

I even found a book on Muntjac and dreams, I haven't read it but sounds cool it's Grace Lin's Muntjac in Dreams and follows the journey of Wren, a Chinese-American girl who uncovers a mystical creature called a muntjac within her backyard. This captivating novel takes readers through Wren's dreams, which act as mirrors uncovering important revelations about her heritage and identity. Wren learns the value of community, friendship, and family, ultimately making this a heartrending book that appeals to all ages. Please someone read it for me and let me know about it more.

As a person who has a number of tattoos I really like to research the meaning of any on top of my own thoughts on them. So I looked into the meaning of it in tattoos. Actually if you're into tattoos you'll realise they are one of the more popular animal tattoos. Deer tattoos reflect a customary design featuring an exceptional deer head's stylised contour, which can be situated anywhere on one's body. The tattoo can also be accompanied by the scientific name of the muntjac – Muntiacus mtijac – or the deer spirit Mandarin script.

The skulls of Muntjacs are very popular at the moment, have been last few years. You can find them for sale all over the place at all sorts of prices. I think they look cool but I don't want one really. I used to love this huge stag head my uncle had in his garage, they looked so cool. But obviously I'm against hunting these magical creatures. I don't know why exactly this has become a thing. I think within all of us is some ancient worship and connection to animals and their powers. We do feel connection to some over others and some very powerfully. I still remember being at Colchester Zoo as a kid and seeing the black panther there, it was a supernatural experience that's stayed with me, I can't really describe it because I experienced it at age 6 or something. But the Panther has always meant something very magical to me. But I'd rather see one alive living the dream than have it's skull in my house.

Ancient Purity Landscape

Anyway I wrote all this and read what I wrote a few times since for my own entertainment. I want to write about all the animals we get around here, and more about all spiritual meanings of animals. If Muntjac is your animal totem or I should say spirit animal, then you are endowed with an intuitive ability to become a skilled psychic and medium, so seize the opportunity to help others. Muntjac is acclaimed for strength and determination, symbolising resilience when confronted with hard situations. Consequently, if you face any hardship, take inspiration from Muntjac and let your strength compel you to persist until you accomplish your objectives.

I personally love that, wether it is my spirit animal or not, I feel a bond with it and I see one around Ancient Purity or anywhere else I feel inspired. There is magic around this place you must come visit and hopefully you'll see one on your visit. I think there is amazing truth in all the Religious and Cultural references of the Muntjac, by truth I mean people believed and experienced. Something doesn't just become a symbol or thing of worship for no reason. They become relevant and stay around for centuries and are known about still today because there was true meaning and experience about them. If you see one consider it a special moment and tap into that. Visit us Monday to Friday 10-5pm and lets hope your trip is a magical one.
